Polka

Coffee Table

I had an idea for a coffee table with coasters seamlessly integrated into its surface.

The concept began with a simple sketch: a cone shape, narrow at the top measures around 90–100mm in diameter—perfectly sized to support a cup and wide at the base for stability.

Playing with this form, I experimented by flipping and rearranging the cones across the surface. This approach introduced both functional elements and visual intrigue.

Cork is an ideal material. Its tactile, lightweight surface is naturally heat- and scratch-resistant, making it perfect for everyday use. Each cone could be individually lathed and joined to create the final design.

From above, the repeated cones form a polka-dot effect.
